Most concrete grinders on the market come with several ways to increase or decrease the weight of your grinder. With options to shift weight over the grinding head or back over the wheels for flexibility in the middle of your job, National’s 110V grinders have you covered. The weight needed is dependent on the specifics of the concrete surface as well as the tooling on your machine.
When you first load your 110V concrete grinder with tooling, make a first pass to decide if you have the correct weight distribution. When running either the Helix or the 8274-4 you can look at the path behind the machine and decide if you have enough or too much weight over the grinding head. It is not recommended to put additional weight on top of either of these machines.
The Helix planetary grinder has weights on top and inside of the grinder head. The weights on top are secured in a stack directly on top of the machine. Add or remove weight as you notice your tooling either performing too aggressively or not aggressive enough.
The 8274-4 concrete grinder has three positions for the side weights. There are 2 weights on each side of the motor, which allow you to position them fully up, fully down, or one up and one down on each side. In most cases, the one up and one down method is a great starting point.
Another factor to consider is the material you are removing with your grinder. For glue, mastic, and thin set, start with less weight over the grinding head. Removing weight from the grinding head of the machine equates to less pressure, less friction, and less heat. Adding these factors to a difficult removal will only slow down your concrete prep process.
When you are using a 110V concrete grinder to profile a floor before polishing, you want to make sure you have weight over the grinding head. The friction and continued contact with the floor help to create an even profile.
Paint and epoxy coating removals vary significantly. Depending on your tooling; PCDs, Full seg metal bond diamonds, or scarifier teeth, you can add or remove weight. Use your first pass as your test of if the combination is working.
