Which floor scraper do I need?

5000DL ride-on scraper removing carpet

Floor scrapers have evolved significantly over the last few decades and now come in a wide variety of power and performance options. Powered floor scrapers are great for removing tile, commercial carpet, hardwood floors, and more.  When choosing a scraper for your fleet, you will want to consider a few different points.

Ride-on floor scrapers operate on several different types of power including propane and battery.  The average size of your job is one of the best indicators for which power type to choose.  Outdoor and large open areas are great for propane power. While battery ride-on scrapers are ideal for residential and commercial buildings and work well when close to a 110V power source for overnight charging.

Jobsite conditions will also impact the size of propane or battery machine best suited for you. Contractors who work primarily in residential spaces find the 5000DL and 5700DL best for their needs.  Available with 6 or 12 batteries, these scrapers are lightweight and have a narrow frame that fits easily into tight spaces. Your run-time needs will also dictate which model is best.

Transportation is another consideration when choosing a scraper.  To and from the job site are important, but at the jobsite also matters.  If the machine needs to go into an elevator or onto a balcony it needs enough removable weight to meet building safety codes.  If the job site doesn’t have power readily available, and you have a battery scraper, consider how you will re-charge the machine at the end of the day.

Before purchasing a scraper, think about job site limitations, power, and size. When in doubt, consult your manufacturer or local surface prep expert for guidance.
